According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey imported a total of roughly 11.6 million tons of scrap in the first seven months of 2024, inching up by 0.5% compared to the same period in the previous year.
Among them, imports from the US accounted for the largest share, totaling around 2.5 million tons, down by 6% year on year. The Netherlands ranked second with 1.44 million tons, up by 13% year on year. It was followed by the UK’s 1.36 million tons, a year-on-year jump of 54%.
In July alone, Turkey's scrap imports totaled approximately 1.6 million tons, a month-on-month increase of 21% and a year-on-year drop of 15.4%.
