According to preliminary data from the US Department of Commerce, imports of long steel products declined significantly in September.

Key Figures:

    • Total Volume: Approximately 215,000 tons in September.

    • Monthly Change: A decrease of about 31.2% compared to August's preliminary figures.

    • Primary Driver: A sharp 62.7% month-on-month drop in wire rod imports was the main contributor to the overall decline.

Major Imported Products in September:

    • Heavy structural shapes: ~60,000 tons

    • Wire rod for drawing: ~44,000 tons

    • Wire rod: ~40,000 tons

    • Hot-rolled steel bar: ~38,000 tons

    • Rebar: ~10,000 tons

Changes by Country of Origin:
Imports from Egypt and Vietnam fell by approximately 27,000 tons and 26,000 tons, respectively. These declines were partially offset by increased shipments from Germany (up ~10,000 tons) and the United Kingdom (up ~8,000 tons).
