The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is helping decarbonize Uzbek fertilizer production and power generation through financing a pilot renewable hydrogen facility, which includes a 20 MW electrolyzer and a 52 MW wind farm.
The financing package offered by the EBRD is EUR 58 million, which will be used in ACWA Power UKS Green H2’s green hydrogen project in Uzbekistan. ACWA Power UKS Green H2 is a special purpose company jointly owned by Acwa Power and Uzbek chemicals company Uzkimyosanoat.
The project aims to support the decarbonization of the ammonia industry in Central Asian countries and increase renewable energy generation. After the facility is put into operation, it is expected to produce up to 3,000 tons of green hydrogen annually and reduce CO2 emissions by about 22,000 tons per year.
