German transmission system operator (TSO) ONTRAS Gastransport GmbH (ONTRAS) and H2 Energy Europe AG will collaborate to build a green hydrogen transport network between Denmark and Germany. Hard-to-abate industries will be able to significantly reduce their carbon emissions using renewable hydrogen obtained through this network, said ONTRAS.

They planned to build a 1 GW green hydrogen production facility in Denmark. The plant will produce 90,000 tons of green hydrogen per year using electricity from offshore wind farms and is scheduled to be in commercial operation in 2028.

The hydrogen can be delivered to industrial companies in Germany, including steelmakers, chemical manufacturers, and power plants.

In addition, they will connect industrial areas to the hydrogen core network (HCN) with the approximately 300 km ONTRAS Green Octopus Mitteldeutschland pipeline. ONTRAS' parent company, German utility EnBW, is investing EUR 1 billion in the construction of the HCN, which is expected to be operational in 2032.
