According to the preliminary Census Bureau data from the US Department of Commerce (USDOC), the US imported around 342,000 tons of slab in July, rising by 7% compared to the previous month but falling 20% from the same month a year ago.
Among them, the imports from Brazil accounted for the largest proportion, totaling roughly 293,000 tons, a month-on-month increase of 29.3% and a year-on-year hike of 3.1%. Canada was also one of the import sources with around 35,400 tons, followed by Japan’s 13,400 tons.
During the period, the import value totaled approximately US$222 million, up by 3.6% month on month and down by 33% year on year.
